generally, you have to get regular, hardline internet in your house, then buy and install a wireless router, which cost about $30-$50. Also, your much better off following the directions on the router and buying it yourself, because most internet providers charge high installation fees for routers.
There is no such thing as wireless internet. You must first have internet in the home and purchasing a wireless router will make it wireless. Cost depends on your provider of cable services.
The only additional expense for wireless internet is the wireless router and wireless adaptor for the computer. Any internet service can be made wireless with a router. How much is costs depends on what speed and service you go with.
AT&T broadband $75 setup with router, $25 per month excluding regular phone service
Are you talking about a plain ol WiFi setup connected to your existing internet connection or a “wireless everywhere” cellular based service?
Either one will run at least $40 but the cell based services are slower, unreliable, and have limiting restrictions on how much data you can transfer.
Cheapest option is just to use the free wireless down at your local coffee shop or jump on your neighbors open network.
Hi Kate-Ann,
I go with everything already said, but it can be free.
It just depends where you live.
I have stayed in Pattaya and Bangkok hotels and condos many times and if I’m lucky enough, there’s a cafe, bar or even hotel or something within range that you can link to.
Or many coffee bars, regular bars and some restaurants offer free wireless Internet to their patrons.
I bet some schools and colleges too.
The laptop will search for all the connections within range automatically so you could get a Wifi-enabled friend to come around and scan your area for you.
Owen.
its depend on your requirement
The wireless part is free if you have an wired connection. The wired connection usually costs around $15-$30/month depending on the speed. Next get a router and plug that into the modem you receive from the internet company. The router is about a one time fee of $30-$60+. Now, you have wireless.
I don’t have a laptop… but I DO have a wireless Sprint card for my desktop. They charge me $70.00 a month. I had to enter into a 2 year contract. I think that it depends on which company you get the card from that will determine the price of the card. I got the card for free but was told if the card became damaged or if I terminated before my contract ended I would need to pay $400.00 I don’t think that there would be a difference in price between a laptop or a desktop. Best advice is to call all of the different carriers and see what they have to offer you.
PS… I just read a few of the answers that were given to you and disagree with the person who said there is no such thing as wireless internet. I lend my card to my friend who has a laptop…( it isn’t a card my the way–It plugs into my USB port on my desktop.) He just needed to download the software that I had onto his laptop and was on the internet in a flash. NO routers were involved.. No modems— nothing. So I hope that you do the research and are able to find what you are looking for .
Good Luck.
